Dinner theater in Clinton Hill looks like this: house-made fettuccine tossed tableside inside a parmigiano wheel, truffle shavings falling, a wood-fired oven glowing at the back. Osteria Brooklyn is a chef-owner operation where the showmanship comes with three decades of technique behind it.

The Concept

Executive chef and owner Raffaele Solinas grew up in Alghero, Sardinia, started in restaurant kitchens at sixteen, cooked his way through cruise ships and Manhattan institutions, and once served as guest chef at a James Beard Foundation luncheon. He brought his island’s flavors to Greenwich Village with Osteria del Sole in the early 2000s, then opened Osteria Brooklyn in 2020 — an authentic Italian kitchen with a proudly Sardinian accent, cooking a la minute.

What to Order

The Fettuccine Osteria — wine-infused pasta with fresh truffles, finished in the cheese wheel — is the mandatory spectacle. Go Sardinian next: malloreddus, the island’s little gnocchetti, and seadas al miele, fried cheese pastry under honey, for dessert. The wood-fired oven turns out margherita, diavola, tartufo and speck-and-gorgonzola pizzas plus crackling carasau flatbread; pappardelle with ossobuco or oxtail ragù and linguine alle vongole hold the middle. Charred octopus and Blue Point oysters open the evening well. The wine list digs into Vermentino and Cannonau before touring Barolo, Amarone and the Super Tuscans.
