It is not cheap to study acting. New York has many distinguished drama schools, but not everyone can afford them. Talent does not choose people by their financial status. Often, natural geniuses come from poor backgrounds and need an impetus in life. Moving Mountains Inc. is a non-profit organization that gives this chance to talented and poor Brooklynites. With faith we can move mountains
The motto of this organization is promising. Over the years, Moving Mountains Inc. managed to prove itself from the best side. It was founded in 2007 as a non-profit youth organization. This promising business was headed by a famous actor and director, Jamie Hector. Many know him as Marlo Stanfield from the series The Wire.
The main goal of Moving Mountains Inc. is to provide talented youth with a safe space to unlock their potential. Being volunteers, all members of the organization share their professional experiences and mentor young people who have not yet found their way in this world. One of the most challenging tasks is to help young talents to go through all the problems and pitfalls of their chosen profession. Moving Mountains employees become real stars who young people look up to in their journey through the mountains of obstacles to the acting world.

All young students are immersed in a creative environment that promotes their inclusive development. Moving Mountains is not just a school but an association of actors who also had a rocky path to the top.
Far beyond the stage
Although Moving Mountains Inc. was founded by the best representatives of the theater and acting world, its importance is not about educating future winners of the Oscars and Laurence Olivier awards. It is proven that art programs help to increase students’ willingness to learn. Moving Mountains practices the development of musical skills that help children to better learn such disciplines as mathematics and reading and also adapt to society. That is why the lessons in Moving Mountains focus on the all-round development of students’ creative potential.
Actors who are currently engaged in acting teach drama. These people who daily transform themselves on stage or set, share their experience with the youth. In addition to acting and improvisation, all students learn teamwork, time management, critical thinking and ambition.
Musical scenes often happen in the work of actors. By dancing, people learn how to better listen and understand their bodies. This helps the actors to control their movements in the shot. The same goes for vocal lessons. Singing is not only a job for future singers and musicians but a way to control their voice, range, tone and diction. For an actor, utterance is as important as a surgeon’s steady hand.

All the skills acquired at Moving Mountains will help future graduates to enter the world of theater and cinema prepared and to make a worthy competition to the Tisch alumnus.
Why Brooklyn?
Jamie Hector himself hails from Brooklyn. As a kid, he began to display his love for acting. After school, he went to auditions and dreamed of being an actor. At that time, there was no such organization in his borough. But his dreams came true. Hector knows firsthand how hard it is for a black guy without money to make it in this world. That is why he decided to create Moving Mountains Inc. in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is the most densely populated borough in New York. The poverty level here is not the same as in other areas. This means that Brooklynites probably need more help than other New Yorkers. So the place was chosen perfectly.
