“DEMOLITION”

The film “Demolition” was released in 2015. Jean-Marc Vallée was the director. Jake Gyllenhaal played the lead male role, and Naomi Watts got the main female role.

This is a dramatic story about a man dealing with the death of his wife as well as inner conflicts. Davis’s marriage could not be described as happy. He was successful, but Davis didn’t love his wife. When she died in an accident, he fell into an inexplicable state. Davis was not hurt in the accident. Furthermore, he was starting to realize that he didn’t love his wife. Moral devastation caused him to behave recklessly. Strange at times.

While at the hospital, he attempted to purchase a chocolate bar, but the machine was broken. So Davis contacted technical support with a complaint. Along the way, he poured out his soul to the customer support representative. He happened to be continuously talking to one person, Karen. So they formed a friendship.

“Demolition” is a complicated story about accepting a lack of emotions and feelings. One day, the main characters arrive at Coney Island. The reason for the visit is an old carousel. The character’s wife adored these rides. So he finds a mechanic who re-starts the old carousel.

The scene with the carousel was not only the first display of the main character’s actual feelings but also the personification of the Brooklyn spirit.

For many years, Coney Island was the symbol of Brooklyn and the main amusement park in New York. As a result, directors frequently film there. In the 21st century, Coney Island has become a strange mix of fun and devastation.

“SCENT OF A WOMAN”

Al Pacino is regarded as one of the greatest actors of the 20th and 21st centuries. He appeared in a number of outstanding films, including “The Devil’s Advocate,” “Scarface,” “The Godfather” and “Heat.” The film “Scent of a Woman” featured a portion of Brooklyn. This cautionary tale is about a blind Lieutenant Colonel Frank and a poor Ivy League student who decides to work as a caretaker during the holidays.

The highlight of the film is the tango scene. It captured the hearts of millions of viewers.

Brooklyn locals can recognize their home borough from one scene in the film: when Frank drives a red convertible. This scene was shot in Dumbo, the Northwest district of Brooklyn. The abbreviation DUMBO stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.

In this movie scene with Al Pacino, especially attentive movie lovers may also notice a reference to another film, “Once Upon a Time in America.” A portion of the Manhattan Bridge might be seen in the space between the two houses on the movie poster. The photograph was taken in Dumbo,  Washington Street, Brooklyn. As a result, a small portion of the borough appeared in another film classic.

Dumbo was once an industrial district. There were large factories and plants. A soap factory and a paper mill, in particular. However, as real estate values in Manhattan increased, Dumbo became overrun with artists. So the neighborhood has become bohemian and creative. Despite the fact that it still has several factories. Specifically, a Brooklyn ice cream factory and a pastry bakery.

“KATE AND LEOPOLD”

The picture was released in 2001. The main roles went to Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan. This is a unique love story between a modern woman from the early 21st century and a man from the past. A story involving a stranger and a form of time machine. The main character, Leopold, a New York aristocracy, falls from an unfinished Brooklyn Bridge and finds himself in 21st-century New York.

The Brooklyn Bridge has been the subject of numerous film plots. It was demolished in the films “Godzilla” and “I Am Legend”. It was also featured in dark colors in Woody Allen’s films and the popular TV series “Gossip Girl.”

However, in the film “Kate and Leopold,” it was transformed into a time machine. Thanks to superb graphics, viewers were able to see the unfinished bridge as it was at the start of its existence.

“Kate and Leopold” is one of the best romantic comedies of the 2000s. Its unique charm and style help you return to the good old days.

“WONDER WHEEL”

Here is Mr. Allen himself. Woody Allen’s films are either beloved or misunderstood. His pictures are not meant for everyone. They are, however, undoubtedly masterpieces. In 2017, his film “Wonder Wheel” was released. Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Juno Temple and James Belushi landed the lead parts.

Mr. Allen’s elegant and sophisticated story is filled with passion, cruelty and betrayal. This is the story of four people whose lives are intertwined in the most unusual way. All of this takes place against the backdrop of the lively Coney Island amusement park.

The main and most famous element of the amusement park is the Ferris wheel. It was even depicted on the film poster.

The main character is Ginny (Kate Winslet). On the beach, she meets and falls in love with her youthful savior Mickey (Justin Timberlake). However, Ginny is married to Humpty (James Belushi). Their marriage is troubled, but when Humpty’s illegitimate daughter, Carolina (Juno Temple), appears on their doorstep, things become even more heated. Not only does the main heroine have conflicts with her husband but also she finds out that Carolina also fell in love with Mickey. So Ginny finds herself in a sticky situation.

The plot is filled with drama, scandals and tantrums that look incredibly surreal against the backdrop of vibrant music and the joy of the amusement park. This is the special feature of Woody Allen’s films. He always conveys important things with irony and humor.

The greater part of the filming took place at Coney Island and Vinegar Hill in Brooklyn. The film turned out to be bright and colorful. It is one of the few films that truly captures the spirit of Coney Island. The director and cameraman did a great job at depicting all of the grandeur and contrast of the amusement park. But, unfortunately, the picture didn’t succeed at the box office. The films of Woody Allen are not for everyone.

“BROOKLYN RULES”

Michael Corrente’s crime drama portrayed not only the streets of Brooklyn but also the nuances of borough life in the 1970s and 1980s.

The story centers around three main characters, played by Freddie Prinze Jr., Scott Caan and Jerry Ferrara. In 2007, the film was partly released. The revenues were rather small – 400 thousand dollars compared to the budget of $8 million.

In 1974, schoolchildren witnessed a crime while skipping class. A local bandit named Caesar (Alec Baldwin) attacks a man. The boys run away and only Scott Caan’s character stays to confront the bandit. The audience is immediately transported to criminal Brooklyn in the mid-1980s, 11 years in the future. The entire story of the lads’ lives and friendship is intertwined with how they survive in criminal Brooklyn. Reluctantly, they face the criminal world again. After the death of one of the friends, they intentionally enter this world to avenge a friend.

While watching the film, Brooklyn residents may have noticed a minor sin. In 1985, each of New York City’s five boroughs had its own color scheme of road signs. In Brooklyn, it was white lettering on a black background. In the 21st century, they’re green, just like they are in the movie.

Most likely, the film’s creators did not want to bother with such an insignificant detail. After all, computer graphics would be required. Alternatively, they could talk to the authorities about temporarily replacing the signs. Anyway, this is a big hassle. Viewers frequently do not forgive filmmakers for failing to pay attention to such things. Although critics talked about the cliched plot of the story.
