THE CAST

The role of the main character, Rob, was played by American actress Zoë Kravitz. An intriguing fact is that Kravitz’s mother, Lisa Bonet, acted in the “High Fidelity” movie, which served as the basis for the series. She was accompanied by Jake Lasy, best known for his roles in the TV shows “White Lotus” and “The Office.”

Da’Vine Joy Randolph, an American actress and singer, was cast as Rob’s best friend.

The series was produced in the comedy genre. The writers and creators of the series presented the main character’s search for love in a humorous way.

The first and only season included ten episodes. The new comedy-romantic series premiered on 2020 Valentine’s Day.

The series’ production began in 2018. Disney has confirmed that they are working on a remake of the 2000 picture. The series was then scheduled to be released on the Disney+ streaming platform. However, the series was presented on Hulu.

During the production process, Zoë Kravitz was instantly added to the list of producers. She started the work alongside Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, André Nemec and others.  Almost immediately, it was revealed that Zoë Kravitz had been cast in the lead role. Filming began in Brooklyn in 2019. Unlike other TV shows and films featuring Brooklyn, “High Fidelity” was shot entirely on the streets of Brooklyn. So, if you look attentively, you can spot familiar places in Crown Heights. This is Downtown Brooklyn.

Despite receiving good ratings on various platforms, the series was canceled in August 2020. It was the only series on the Hulu streaming platform with a black lead actress.

ONE HUNDRED AND ONE DIFFERENCE

“High Fidelity” was dropped by Disney+ due to the fact that it is not suitable for watching by the entire family. After that, Hulu bought the rights to the series. The actress herself believes that the series’ cancellation was a huge mistake. Referring to the fact that their concept was just not understood.

The main character in the original source, both book and film was a man. The character in the film was played by John Cusack. Perhaps changing the gender of the character had an effect on the audience.  In addition to the main character, other characters also had opposite genders.

During the series’ production, the main storyline was built on the main character’s past relationships. The similarities between the series and the movie ended here. The creators of “High Fidelity” aspired to produce an independent project. As a result, there you will not find lines or phrases from the movie in it. This could also play a fatal role. However, the plot frame was the same as in the film. The one-and-a-half-hour film was divided into ten episodes. This made it too long at times.

On the other hand, it opened the door for minor characters to be revealed. Making the story more interesting and complete.

This specific aspect of the series was well-received by the audience. Everyone enjoyed the subtle details that made fun of New York’s fashion life. These were topical moments in the life of the townspeople.

The biggest advantage of the series is the music. The protagonist in the film had more specific musical tastes. In the series, the main heroine possessed a diverse musical taste. From David Bowie to Wu-Tang Clan. This is understood right away from the soundtrack, which combines jazz, punk and electronic music. The series featured over a hundred different songs. The show’s creators were able to fit them all into 10 half-hour episodes. On the one hand, this should entice true music enthusiasts. On the other hand, the motifs of hundreds of songs are only briefly mentioned, and that is it. As a result, the series turns into a musical blend.
